Though she made a powerful impression with "Some Girl(s)" (2013), a filmic collaboration with playwright Neil LaBute, Daisy von Scherler Mayer was best known for frothy comedies chock full of eccentricity. Her breakthrough feature, "Party Girl" (1995), centered around a charming and nocturnal social butterfly, played by indie darling Parker Posey, who learned how to hold down a job and be semi-responsible; however, the film may be better remembered for the microcosm of freaks and scene-stealers envisioned by von Scherler Mayer. She also helmed "Madeline" (1998), a well-received adaptation of the picture book series, and a slew of television shows that straddled the line between comedy and drama. Much like her "Party Girl" protagonist, she evolved professionally over time while retaining the sensibilities that made her delightful in the first place.
