Southeastern wipes away 7-run deficit for series-clinching win over UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Al. (WVUE) - Southeastern (4-3) baseball is looking to get off to a decent start in the new era under Bobby Barbier and on Sunday (Feb. 25) they came away from a wild finish in Birmingham.
UAB came out swinging, racking up an early 6-0 lead courtesy of a pair of first-inning home runs. The Lions came storming back, down 7-0, after four of their relievers on the mound limited UAB to a single run over the next 8 innings.
Southeastern’s bats came alive in the sixth with a home run from Shea Thomas. First baseman Conner O’Neal hit a single to left field and Jude Hall got the wood on a straightaway over center to bring two runs home.
Down 7-3 going into the seventh, Southeastern continues to connect with their bats. A Parker Coley homer from left-center brought three runners home, followed by Rhett Rosevear with a homer over right-center to make the game all even at 7-7.
The Lions continued to send 12 batters to the plate and second baseman Jake Haze took the lead with a two-run double.
Lance Lauve, Dalton Aspholm, Lakin Polk, and Aiden Vosburg all combined from the mound to shut down UAB’s offense for the remainder of the day.
SLU Sports Info says that the seven-run deficit is the largest overcome by Southeastern since they overcame a nine-run deficit over UNO on May 28, 2021 in the Southland Conference Tournament at home.
